This week I took a deep dive into the vast catalogue of 7000 images trapped on my Iphone. I then randomly selected four that caught my eye and rescued them from obscurity. I called on their support to help me launch some Haiku poetry. A collaboration of image and inspiration. Thank you team...
Brittle autumn leaves
Skitter along the footpath Scratchy dancers all.
Winter morning walk
Pile them up high
Indomitable spirit
Stacks up yet again.
Precious pink piglets
Slowly drying on the line
Just hanging about.
It is yet again, Poetry Friday and our host on this occasion is Molly Hogan from Nix The Comfort Zone. Molly's post presents her plans for some slow and considered summer meandering and the observations that naturally flow that state of mind. She begins in her own garden...
I love those "scratchy dancers!" You captured the sound perfectly and the assonance (is that the right word?) or near-rhyme of scratchy and dancers plus the return of the AHH of autumn in the final word all makes this one a little piece of music!
ReplyDeleteAnd then there are the three little pigs hung out to dry. The photo made me giggle and wonder about the back story -- both the literal (what muck did these three get into?) and the folk tale version (Is the big bad wolf lurking nearby? Is this some kind of wolfish prank? Or is this mama pig cleaning the three up before they go out to make their fortunes?)
Your extenisve reply lifts me. I enjoyed your prognostications. Mary Lee. Glad you liked the scratchy dancers line. the piggies make for an interesting back story. Our youngest grand-daughters is demonstrably attached to 'Giggy' so we invested in a 'drift of pigs' to insure that there is always one to be found when needed. This was the scene on washing day.
DeleteAlan, “scratchy dancers” is such a joy! Such a diverse collection of photographs – perfect for inspiring your brilliant thoughts. I adore those three little piggies!
ReplyDeleteDoh! I see Mary Lee already picked out the same lovely bits and bites!
Thank you Tracey. I think the diversity of these images adds to their appeal. Our phones hold glorious secrets, so it was a lot of fun to uncover a few.
DeleteI feel like some small child is going to be delighted to hold those little piggies, all fresh and clean, in their arms again!
ReplyDeleteIndeed, Jane. The pigs are very much a part of life around our place. Our grand-daughter can't wait until she gets them back on washing day.
DeleteThank you for all of this, Alan, especially the little piggies. Delightful!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Rose. It was a journey of discovery in every sense.
DeleteLike others, I love the sound of "scrathcy dancers." Delightful, as are those three little pigs, dangling, hanging dancers.
ReplyDeleteScratchy dancers was an uplifting pair of words to stumble upon., Karen. The pigs speak for themselves- little winners.
ReplyDeleteThose three little piglets. Adorable!
ReplyDeleteIt's a huge responsibility being guardians of the piglet drift, Marcie.
DeleteThese are all such a delight! I had fun reading through your post, coming upon each photo you chose, and then reading your haiku. I love the range you captured here. That first one--photo and poem--is a masterpiece of well-chosen words and sounds, and the whimsy of that final picture/poem is a lovely way to finish. You have inspired me to pick a few photos and get to work! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteGlad you found delight in my poetic offerings, Molly. By choosing diverse images, it allowed me greater range for the responses. Have fun exploring your own treasure trove of images.
DeleteThis is Janice. What a great idea to look for haiku in your phone archives. The piglets made me smile, imagining a Mom trying to clean up a playroom and finding these three pigs. Also could hear those dancing leaves.
ReplyDeleteThank you kindly, Janice. We had a few more piglets than three at one stage. They gravitated to our grand-daughter's place and never returned...
DeleteI love your piggy haiku–especially the last line, and pic, perhaps there are more poems or even a story there that they're asking for… thanks Alan 😊
ReplyDeleteThanks, Michelle. Perhaps a story spark might be a future project for such images as you suggest. Must keep that in mind...
DeleteBest idea yet of how to use the thousands of photos I carry around with me! Love those pigs!
